Place in the second round. On Sunday, the majority “Together!” (25.75%) and Nupes (25.66%) came out on top in the first stage of the 2022 legislative elections, well ahead of their opponents from the National Rally (18.68%) and the Republicans (10.42%). ). An unusual configuration for this type of ballot, usually very favorable to the presidential party. The coming week therefore promises to be made up of sometimes new battles, most often opposing the united left to the macronists.

271 second rounds between the majority and the Nupes

This is the new duel of these legislative elections. After two clashes between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen in 2017 and 2022, it is now in the person of Jean-Luc Mélenchon that the Head of State finds his main competitor. The proof during this election, which placed the Nupes, in the first round, only 21,000 votes behind the majority. As a result, the two political forces will embody the main match, to be found in 271 constituencies. The members of the government themselves will have to experience this new divide. This will be particularly the case for the Minister Delegate in charge of Europe, Clément Beaune (35.81%), in the running in Paris, and for the moment preceded by the candidate Nupes, Caroline Mecary (41.40%). Same case for the Minister of Ecological Transition, Amélie de Montchalin, who also finds herself in difficulty in Essonne, with 31.46% of the vote, behind the socialist Jérôme Guedj (38.31%), previously elected in this territory. Sunday evening, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has already mentioned the outlines of these upcoming duels. By castigating “the extremes“, she notably presented” Together! as the party ofsocial progress», and listed the risks involved in a victory for his opponents.

107 games between the majority and the RN

The majority will face the nationalist right in just over 100 constituencies. Among the hot spots, we find in particular the 5th district of Seine-et-Marne sought by the Minister for Foreign Trade, Franck Riester. Arriving at the top of the first round with 29%, the ex-LR will face RN François Lenormand (25%). The two candidates will dispute a territory that placed Marine Le Pen in the lead in the first round of the presidential election.

59 Head-to-Head Nupes/National Gathering

It is a scenario that has caused the majority to tangle their brushes. Government spokeswoman Olivia Grégoire wanted to clarify the voting instructions for voters in the territories who will decide between a Nupes / RN duel: “Not a voice at the National Rally.” Among the constituencies concerned, the one targeted by Jean-Michel Blanquer, sharply eliminated in the first round in the 4th constituency of Loiret, and far behind the candidate of the National Rally, Thomas Ménagé (31.45%). Which will face the communist candidate of Nupes Bruno Nottin (19.43%). In Yonne, the outgoing LR deputy Guillaume Larrivé, candidate for his succession, was finally eliminated, arriving in 3rd place behind his opponent from Nupes Florence Loury (24.25%), neck and neck with that of RN Daniel Grenon (23.93%).

25 duels between Les Républicains and the National Rally

The right, weakened since the debacle of Valérie Pécresse in the presidential election, obtained only 11.4% of the vote, arriving in fourth position at the national level, behind the coalition of the left Nupes. Some 25 LR-RN duels are expected, against 24 LR duels against Nupes, and 18 against the majority. “I call on the voters of Les Républicains candidates, especially those who have been eliminated, to join us“said LREM deputy Laurent Saint-Martin on Public Sénat.

Eight constituencies affected by the triangular

It is a rare electoral fact. Access to the second round being conditional on obtaining the votes of at least 12.5% of registered voters, the strong abstention from the legislative elections mainly gives rise to duels. This year, eight triangles will however be invited to the second round, against only one five years ago. Most of these three-way matches will oppose the presidential majority, the union of the left and the National Rally. They will notably take place in Tarn, Nièvre, or even in two districts of Lot-et-Garonne. Only one will concern an LR candidate, Philippe Juvin, in Hauts-de-Seine, where he will face Nupes and the majority. In the Lot, the Nupes will also face the majority as well as a socialist dissident, an unprecedented scheme.
