Legislative: the Meta group (ex-Facebook) deploys tools to encourage people to vote

The Meta France group (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) wants to encourage you to go to the polls for the legislative elections. Meta had already committed during the presidential election and is therefore repeating the operation, with new initiatives and always in partnership with the government and the NGO “A Voté”. Meta platforms are used by millions of people every day, it is a good way to disseminate reliable information on the vote and incentives to go to the polls according to Elisa Borry-Estrade, head of public affairs at Meta France.

“Our primary vocation is to give everyone a voice, and we believe that there is no better time to make your voice heard than that of the elections”, she believes at the microphone of Europe 1 “So it seemed quite natural to us at the time of the legislative elections, when we were predicted to have strong abstention, to use our platforms to remain mobilized on this citizen engagement effort.”

It is also an opportunity for Meta to show that it can contribute to distributing reliable and verified information. The dissemination of fake news on social networks is a real problem for the company. A reproach that is often made to him, especially during the election period.

Five initiatives on Facebook and Instagram

Meta is therefore launching five apolitical initiatives: reminders on the methods of voting which will appear in Facebook feeds, educational content which will also circulate on all platforms to understand the role of deputies, of the National Assembly, and therefore the issue of legislative. There will also be stickers in stories on Instagram, images added to videos or personal photos that encourage people to vote or serve to show that they voted on D-Day. Finally, a quiz on the legislative elections will be put in place in Facebook News.

“We love green” festival-goers will also have access to a stand run by the NGO “A voted”, mainly aimed at young people. Volunteers will answer all questions and encourage people to vote.

“We are trying different formats and different complementary formulas to reach the widest possible number of people”, explains to our microphone Elisa Borry-Estrade. “We know that at the time of the presidential election, for example, the various small modules in the users’ thread had made it possible to redirect more than a million clicks to official government resources. The campaign that we had set up with Konbini on Instagram had generated over 17 million views.”

These initiatives and modules will gradually appear on Facebook and Instagram, starting on Friday. The elections will take place on June 12 and 19.
