Sébastien Mauvais, one of the winners of season 1 of “Lego Masters”, was convicted of defamation against James Chéron, mayor of Montereau (77).
This Monday, January 3, the Fontainebleau court found Sébastien Mauvais guilty of defamation. The 48-year-old man is ordered to pay 400 euros in damages to James Chéron as well as 1,500 in attorneys’ fees. He is also forced to pay a suspended fine of 500 euros.
“If Sébastien Mauvais had not won the first season of” Lego Masters “on M6, the case would have gone unnoticed”, wrote Le Figaro.
According to the Parisian, the case begins on February 21, 2021, with the publication of a post on Facebook accusing James Chéron of having used a car from the town hall of Montereau, as well as the gas card, in order to carry out a private travel. However, when viewing the town hall’s surveillance cameras, the car was not moved during the periods mentioned.
Facebook seized to advance the investigation
In order to determine the identity of the author of this defamation, the president of the judicial tribunal of Paris, at the request of the lawyer of James Chéron, seized Facebook to transmit the telephone number associated with the account of the page. After a quick investigation, it turned out that the number belongs to Sébastien Mauvais.
At a hearing on December 6, the former winner of “Lego Masters” denied the charges, saying his phone had been stolen. In addition, he considers having been wrongly accused because of his friendship with Yves Jégo, the main opponent of James Chéron.
However, Sébastien Mauvais was still convicted of defamation against the mayor of Montereau. The latter was also satisfied with this conviction: “It is a strong message addressed to all those who think that anonymity is synonymous with impunity. It is not a question of the burden of the sentence, it is a question of principle: we cannot say just anything, anywhere. “
