This Thursday, January 6, Sébastien Mauvais, the winner of the first season of Lego Masters, was found guilty of defamation after having founded a Facebook page against the mayor of his city.
A dirty deal for the winner of Lego Masters. Sébastien Mauvais, the champion of the first season of the M6 construction game, was found guilty of defamation by the court of Fontainebleau, located in Seine-et-Marne. The latter, who founded the Power Brick company, was tried for a defamation case against the mayor of his city, James Chéron, because of a Facebook page titled Montereau is told to you through which he attacked the politician.
In a publication of February 21, 2021, he claimed for example that the mayor of Fontainebleau had used a car from the town to make a private trip several kilometers, while using the gas card attached to the vehicle. But surveillance cameras proved the car had not been moved. Aware of this false scoop, James Chéron decided to take legal action. The Paris judicial tribunal, in charge of the investigation, had obtained from Facebookthe phone number of the page creator. And this matched that of Sébastien Mauvais.
Lego Masters champion sentenced to several fines
During his hearing, which took place this Thursday, January 6, the Lego champion formally denied the accusations explaining having had his phone stolen at the time of the facts. But the judge was not convinced of his explanation : “We are facing someone who does not assume to have created a page to say anything, but the court is convinced that it is indeed him”, declared the lawyer of the mayor of Fontainebleau, master Romain Darrière. Thus Sébastien Mauvais was ordered to pay 400 euros in damages to his mayor, in addition to 1,500 euros in legal fees and a suspended fine of 500 euros. “A strong message addressed to all those who think that anonymity is synonymous with impunity”, commented James Chéron after the trial.
