With the Yoga Tab 13, the tech specialist Lenovo presents a tablet for multimedia use. What does the device have to offer?

Elegant design and a large display: the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 in the “Shadow Black” color is a real eye-catcher. The manufacturer praises the tablet as the ultimate device for home entertainment. But is it also worthwhile for consumers to take a closer look?

A lot of fun?

Once unpacked, the tablet feels high quality in the hand. This is not only due to its high weight, but also because the upper half of the back is covered with Alcantara fabric. The unusual but appealing design is just as eye-catching as the 13-inch display, which is very large compared to many other tablets. This shines in bright colors when playing content and displays series, films or even games with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,350, but the whole thing is not quite as sharp as the iPad Pro, for example, due to a lower pixel density.

Another special feature is a permanently installed, stable bracket with which users can set up the device or hang it on a hook – for example in the kitchen so that the tablet does not take up any space on the worktop. In addition, the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 offers a USB and a micro HDMI port, via which the tablet can be connected to a laptop and used as an additional monitor.

Is everything fluid?

Meanwhile, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor and eight gigabytes of RAM ensure that the tablet can score with a smooth operating speed and reliable playback of all content. Users can also play more demanding games on it. Thanks to a high-capacity battery of 10,000 mAh, the tablet lasts for hours of gaming sessions or a series marathon. And should power replenishment be needed in between, the Yoga Tab 13 will soon be recharged via a quick charge function.

A surprisingly powerful sound compared to other tablets ensures a lot of fun with all of this. Lenovo has installed four speakers from the audio specialists at JBL in the premium tablet. In combination with the large display, content such as Netflix series, YouTube videos and games can provide impressive entertainment.

Even fluid and fast surfing as well as reading texts, comics or eBooks is fun on the Yoga Tab 13. Compared to smaller tablets, the significantly higher weight of more than 800 grams and the size make it difficult to hold the device in your hands for long, for example if you want to read a story in bed. The already mentioned folding stand is not installed for nothing.

For the home only?

Unfortunately, the tablet has no slot for SIM cards and no camera on the back. However, users can snap selfies using the 8-megapixel front camera or use the device for video chats. The fact that there is neither a rear camera nor support for mobile internet confirms that the tablet is primarily intended for use at home. There the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 serves as a reliable and effective entertainment machine for a price of around 750 euros.
