It was at the Paris Fair, during the 121st edition of the famous Lépine competition, that the “Géocoeur” was rewarded. This connected accessory for defibrillators is triggered as soon as the emergency services are contacted for a heart attack.
Designed by Frédéric Leybold, a nurse by profession, this device is placed next to the defibrillators and is connected to the Samu and the firefighters. When they receive a call for a cardiac arrest victim, they trigger a visual and audible alarm on the nearby Geohearts. Passers-by who hear the ringtone can scan a QR code to find out where the person to be helped is and bring the defibrillator to rescue them before emergency services arrive.
The principle is simple: save lives by accelerating the care of a person in cardio-respiratory arrest.

“I am very happy that the first prize in the competition has been awarded to him”, indicated to Agence France-Presse the director of the competition, Barbara Dorey, who salutes an invention “very important on the humanist level”. “It’s very representative of what the Lépine competition is,” she added, praising a “connected object for the good of all, the answer to the ultimate need in the event of a heart problem”.
For this invention, which stood out among 358 others exhibited from April 28 to May 9 at Paris Expo Portes de Versailles, Frédéric Leybold was awarded the President of the Republic prize in the form of a Sèvres porcelain vase. . He had also received the active support of the Paris Fire Brigade from the first hours of the competition. Health will therefore have been the big winner of this 2022 edition of the Lépine competition.
