Les Bronzés 3: is a fourth film planned?

Released in cinemas in 2006, the 3rd part of tannedwhich will be rebroadcast on Sunday July 3, 2022 in prime time on TF1is the conclusion of the cult cinematic trilogy carried by the members of the troop of the Splendid. However, a 4th film could have seen the light of day on the big screen. In fact, it was the director Patrice Leconte who wondered if the spectators could find the group of friends in a retirement home. “It was a joke, but a joke that I didn’t mind. Deep down inside, it would have amused me to do a bit like in La Fin du jour by Julien Duvivier where former artists (played by Michel Simon, Louis Jouvet) are gathered in a retirement home and are odious to each other! I wanted to do it in black and white, to do an art and essay!“, he confided.

Initially, it was producer Thomas Langmann who imagined what the 4th opus in the saga could have been. “He absolutely wanted to produce a fourth part. We had to invent a story that brings together the Splendid and what we do best in current comedy. I accepted, because I thought it could be quite funny to make a confrontation between the old generation and the new“, explained Patrice Leconte. Thomas Langmann therefore demanded a screenplay from the filmmaker, who had embarked on writing a script.

Patrice Leconte on Les Bronzés 4: “There was a producer’s job to do, and that was not done”

“We were paid to invent a story. It wasn’t a complete script, nor a two-page synopsis, but a first treatment that we could start working on.“, he had revealed. In his own words, Patrice Leconte had imagined the “pretty shitty project” of the character of Jérôme, played by Christian Clavier, on his deathbed. “He pretends to be dying, he summons all his friends to accompany him. He tells them that he founded a vacation club and that his days are numbered. There is behind that an odious trick on death, of course: the holiday club does not even exist, it is a plot on the ground“, had added the director.

In the end, the project was abandoned, thus preventing a possible Tanned 4 to see the light of day in theaters. “I don’t think this project ever passed through the hands of the people at Le Splendid. I didn’t want to be the Interflora messenger. There was a producer job to do, and it wasn’t done.“, underlined Patrice Leconte. “They wanted to make them leave again, I don’t know where! I had a more interesting pitch, a bit surprising. They met to go on vacation except that in the night there was so much stuff that they never managed to catch their plane the next day. It was a Bronzés without vacation! I found it funny“, indicated for his part the producer Thomas Langmann.
