Les Grosses Têtes: return of an emblematic member, his successor… Laurent Ruquier takes stock

Although he left BFMTV after only three months on the air due to lack of audience, the success of Laurent Ruquier at the helm of Les Grosses Têtes has not been denied for 10 years on RTL. The host spoke about this subject in the columns of Le Parisien.

After spending 15 long years at the helm of the cult show On va s’gêner on Europe 1, Laurent Ruquier was poached by RTL in 2014, to take over from Philippe Bouvard at the helm of Les Grosses Têtes. Ten years later, the historic program of the M6 group station remains one of the most listened to radio shows in France. Laurent Ruquier spoke about the success of the program over all these years in an interview with Parisian. “We went back to the basics of the show, with small changes. It’s a club that you want to frequent, with people of all generations, new faces like other well-known ones“, underlined the host.

We have both the writer Philippe Claudel and Adil Rami, who doesn’t have his tongue in his pocket even if there is a hair on it. And we go from Roman Doduik to Bernard Mabille or Olivier de Kersauson, back next week. This is what makes us also work with young people, who listen more to podcasts. But there is still a way to go, I am not 100% satisfied with the current version. And there are members that I want to find again, like Jeanne Balibar, for example“, added Laurent Ruquier, who also spoke of his recent reconciliation with Philippe Bouvard. “The word is strong, but the fact that he agrees to do the show is already a nice step“, clarified the former face of BFMTV.

Laurent Ruquier: “I said that I planned to go at least until the 50th anniversary of Grosses Têtes, in 2027”

I never had a problem with him, it was a one-sided problem. Especially since I have already said that I had admiration for him and that I understood that, humanly, it was difficult to leave a baby that you loved for thirty-seven years. But I think that with time and age (94 years), he wants to leave well“, he also added about his predecessor. Asked about the identity of his potential successor at the helm of the Grosses Têtes, Laurent Ruquier preferred to kick in. “I don’t want to give bad ideas to my station… (He laughs.) I said that I planned to go at least until the 50th anniversary of the Grosses Têtes, in 2027 therefore. This still leaves me a little leeway.“, he concluded.
