Stéphane Bern and Lorant Deutsch are ready to immerse viewers in the middle of the Gallo-Roman period this December 28 at 9:05 p.m. on France 2.
History buffs will meet at 9:05 pm on France 2 on December 28 to discover the program Let yourself be guided in the time of the Gallo-Romans. In the new issue – and the last of the year 2021 – of their show, Stéphane Bern and Lorant Deutsch are ready to transform themselves into tourist guides of the Gallo-Roman era to bring viewers over 1000 years back, to discover the daily life of Romans and Gauls. And it is once again thanks to technology, and more precisely 3D, that they will be able to immerse us in the most spectacular places of this era which extends from 1er century BC to 5e century of our era.
This journey through time will also be punctuated by characters with names known to all such as Julius Caesar, Vercingetorix or Augustus. Geography side, it is to the south of Gaul that the two history buffs will head in order to see Nîmes and its arenas, Lyon – also called Lugdunum at the time when it was the capital of the Gauls – or Arles. Total change of scenery guaranteed. In Nîmes, the Augusteum will be explored, in order to learn more about this sanctuary with typical Roman architecture built to celebrate the emperor with dignity, but that’s not all. The Maison Carrée is another temple in Nîmes not to be missed, especially because of its excellent conservation.
Another vision of Asterix and Obelix
Stéphane Bern and Lorant Deutsch will also take viewers to discover the Arles boat bridge, which was one of the most prosperous cities of the Gallo-Roman era thanks to its proximity to the Rhône and all the commercial exchanges that this enabled it to do. The circus of Arles, which was destroyed in the Middle Ages, will also be part of the program to look back on the entertainment of the time such as chariot races. Finally, architecture enthusiasts will be able to rejoice: as only three-story Roman bridge still standing, the Pont du Gard will obviously be the subject of the special attention of Stéphane Bern and Lorant Deutsch who will explain, thanks to 3D, how such a feat of architecture could be built.
