LG Display shows clear OLED screens for a wide variety of purposes. One serves as a shelf.
The upcoming CES in Las Vegas is plagued by many cancellations. But at least LG is exhibiting on site and not only showing a spectacular giant armchair with a curved 55-inch OLED, but also (semi) transparent OLEDs. These are currently only concepts and not yet ready-to-sell models, as The Verge writes.
LG Display shows two such transparent 55-inch OLEDs, for example, installed one above the other on a shelf: the “OLED Shelf”. For example, you can display a wall-sized painting on the screen, so the shelf can be used to beautify your home. You can also use the OLED shelf as a television or display different content on the two screens. You can then place books or the like on the upper edge of the shelf. If the displays are switched off, you can look through them – and look, for example, at another, real painting on the wall behind them. But you can also extend a cover behind the OLEDs and thus prevent any transparency.
However, transparent screens also make sense for sales areas. This is what the “Shopping Managing Showcase” is supposed to show and it works like this: A shopkeeper places the OLED screens in front of his products. Explanatory information / animations about the products behind can then be shown on the screens. Or the screen is used to emphasize certain parts of the products behind it. The “Show Window” goes in a similar direction, only that it is about transparent OLEDS for shop windows. Advantage: The shop owner can change the advertising text at any time without great effort.
