Queer Cinema: A little digression
The 2005 drama “Brokeback Mountain”, in which two gay cowboys fall in love, is probably popular with many people the Film that they associate with queer cinema. The film with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal reached a wide audience, won three Academy Awards and is undoubtedly considered a milestone in film history.
But it is not the first film to deal with LGBTIQ issues: the German silent film “Anders als die Andern” from 1919 is about a violin player who is blackmailed because of his sexual orientation. It is considered to be the first film ever to deal with same-sex love.
