Anger is mounting among liberal nurses because of the lack of protection to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. The "Naked against the Covid-19" campaign was launched to denounce their working conditions.
France faces a shortage of surgical masks and medical equipment. If some companies are mobilizing to help health professionals, they have insufficient stocks as they fight daily against the health crisis due to the new coronavirus. To denounce these unacceptable working conditions, the collective of liberal nurses "SOS caregivers in danger" threw a symbolic campaign called "Naked against the Covid-19".
It all started last Saturday, when a liberal nurse from Perpignan, Alexandra Lopez, created a group on WhatsApp to express anger at the situation. She invited her colleagues to photograph themselves naked in order to denounce the lack of medical equipment symbolically. Like all liberal nurses, Alexandra Lopez feels completely forgotten as the pandemic continues to gain ground. "We feel like we have been abandoned, sent to the slaughterhouse", she admits.
His initiative quickly gained momentum. Many nurses from Occitania and from all over France joined the group. "To explain that we are naked in the face of the coronavirus when we go to see our patients. We do not have the equipment. We are in great difficulty. We feel alone and helpless in this war that we have to face without weapons We are allowed to use expired masks, knowing that we must change masks (assuming that they are not expired) every four hours. We are supposed to have 18 each in staffing per week, which is far from the case. ", laments Alexandra Lopez.
Another liberal nurse practicing in the Eastern Pyrenees, Mélina Dufraigne, explains that this campaign is a "A way of questioning the government because the main emphasis in the media is on hospital workers, but it is not only them who are confronted with Covid-19". She reminds that liberal nurses also face coronavirus patients and that they need equipment to protect themselves. But for the moment, the collective has received no response from ARS Occitanie, or from the order of nurses from Aude, Pyrénées-Orientales and Hérault.
On March 24, a doctor from Hérault, Alain Colombié, posed naked, proposing that all his colleagues work "with an armband, a plastron or any other means, entitled: CHAIR À CANON".
