TRIPOLI (Reuters) – Hundreds of people demonstrated in several Libyan cities on Friday to protest against chronic power cuts and denounce the negligence of the authorities which worsens their living conditions.

In Tripoli’s Martyrs’ Square, several hundred people gathered to shout slogans hostile to the two rival governments, still embroiled in political stalemate.

Smaller protests also took place in Benghazi and Tobruk, as well as in smaller towns, reflecting the scale of the anger.

“We’ve had enough, we’ve had enough! The nation wants to overthrow governments! We want electricity!” chanted protesters in Tripoli as security forces watched.

The discussions led by the presidents of the two rival Libyan parliaments in Geneva ended on Thursday without any tangible result to allow the electoral process to be relaunched.
