Lidl in a dispute with a major competitor: the discounter raises serious allegations

The pre-trial judge is quoted as saying: “Essentially, Lidl alleges that Tesco is deliberately trying to capitalize on Lidl’s reputation as a ‘discount’ supermarket known for its cheap prices.” Tesco has apparently already filed a counterclaim. This is intended to invalidate some Lidl brands.

According to the information, Lidl will spend £1.17 million on the process, and Tesco even £1.19 million. According to the judge, this underlines “how important the trademark dispute is for both parties”. However, a date for the court hearing has not yet been set.
