This Saturday will be held in Lille a meeting of Eric Zemmour.
The tension rose, with the first shots of tear gas from the police, at the start of a demonstration in Lille on Saturday by several hundred “antifa” activists, leftists and students against the holding of a meeting by Eric Zemmour, noted an AFP journalist.
The police fired tear gas twice in the early afternoon. A first time to disperse a group of about twenty demonstrators all dressed in black trying to prevent the extraction by the police of one of them, and then when demonstrators brandished smoke bombs.
A first meeting at the end of the morning
At the second salvo, the crowd retreated, before regrouping and starting to walk again, several demonstrators kicking the gas cartridges back towards the important police cordon. The demonstrators had just set off for their course in the city center, away from the place of the Zemmour meeting, behind a banner proclaiming “Faire Bloc – Put them on their knees” and under slogans “Everyone hates Zemmour”.
The CGT activists present took the lead of the procession, initially led by a few dozen demonstrators dressed in black and appearing as ready to fight. “Zemmour, our parents knew these ideas, and it continues, people are deaf or blind, I don’t understand”, was indignant in the procession Christian, 68, retired. Bringing together “antifa” activists, trade unions, students and left-wing organizations, this demonstration follows a first rally which brought together 500 people according to the prefecture in the morning, in the presence of the PS mayor, Martine Aubry, to say “No to racism, no to the far right” to the call of SOS-racisme.
