Lilly Krug wants to be an actress, just like her mother, Veronica Ferres. So she moved to Los Angeles. GALA listened to how things are going there.

She already knows the healthy Californian lifestyle. Before the interview with GALA, Lilly Krug, 21, was in the yoga studio. The daughter of actress Veronica Ferres, 57, and film producer Martin Krug, 64, has been living in Los Angeles for a while. Her mother’s name is far less well known here than in Germany, but Ferres’ contacts still help from time to time. Lilly, that becomes clear in an interview with GALA, but wants to find her own way into film.

Lilly Krug: “I think every defeat has a reason”

GALA: You grew up in Munich and now live in California. What does a typical Lilly day look like?

Lilly Krug: Sometimes I have three auditions and rehearsals for a play. And on other days I can fully concentrate on my studies. However, I try to have at least an hour every day just for myself, for sport and relaxation.

In addition to acting, you study psychology. An advantage of both preparing for a role?

Yes, it helps me to understand people. Why does he act like this and not another? When I was preparing for the role of the psychopath Sky, which I played on “Shattered,” I also spoke to psychologists to get closer to the character.

You play a leading role alongside Hollywood star John Malkovich. A big success.

John Malkovich, who is also the film’s producer, is a friend of my mother’s. I’ve known him since I was a kid. When I was 14, he already wanted to work with me. At that time I was still in the discovery phase and wanted to finish school first. It took me time – and experience from other jobs – to figure out that acting is what I love.

Why so hesitant? Didn’t you want to be compared to your mother?

No, it wasn’t. I love my mom, she has built a great career. But every path is different. And my way is my very own. I just needed the time to realize that I wanted a job that allowed me to express myself creatively.

What do you say to people who think you get your roles just from “Vitamin B”?

I tell them that you have to work hard to be successful. After all, it’s me who has to convince at the casting. This includes being perfectly prepared and showing that you can do it. Otherwise you will not be occupied.

And how do you deal with cancellations?

I think every defeat has a reason. Sometimes you just aren’t the type that’s wanted for that particular role. I think the most important thing is not to take the rejection personally.

Your parents sometimes live in Los Angeles, do you live under the same roof?

No I live alone. And when I’m studying, I’m at the university in my student room. The university is downtown, it takes a long time to drive there.

Do you ever ask your mother for advice?

No more and no less than others.

You recently posted your friend on Instagram for the first time.

Yes, there is someone and I am very happy.
