Linda Evangelista: disfigured by aesthetic treatment, the ex-model confides

Linda Evangelista no longer wants to hide. While her body has been deformed by an aesthetic procedure, the star model of the 1990s comes out of the shadows.

She confided exclusively in the American magazine People, of which she made the front page, and in which she decided to reveal photographs of her damaged body. Indeed, for five years, the 56-year-old model has been living a nightmare after having had recourse to an aesthetic cryotherapy procedure, cryolipolysis, which consists of freezing fat. Except that the intervention went wrong. Linda Evangelista has been the victim of side effects that affect less than 1% of patients – paradoxical adipose hyperplasia – with the consequences of seeing the treated areas swell and then harden permanently.

A drama that the star model wanted to make public, after years of silence and isolation. “I can no longer live like this, in hiding and in shame. I can’t live in this pain anymore. I finally want to speak”, thus confided the fifty-year-old to the magazine, returning to the physical and psychological consequences with which she lives today.

A loss of identity

“I loved being on the podium. Now, I’m afraid to meet someone I know,” explains Linda Evangelista, who after the appearance of her first swellings in 2016, was first compelled to a drastic diet leaving her hungry. “I got to a point where I wasn’t eating at all. I thought I was losing my mind, ”she explained in the columns of People, before finally undergoing two liposuction operations.

They won’t do anything about it, leaving Linda Evangelista’s body deformed and sore. “Bulges are protrusions. And they are tough. If I walk without a belt in a dress, I will chafe until I almost bleed. Because it’s not like soft fat rubbing, it’s like hard fat rubbing,” she explains. Another consequence of these growths, the model specifies that she can no longer “put (her) arms along (her) ribs”. “I don’t think designers will want to dress me in this,” she continues. An inability to work that led the star to take legal action against CoolSculpting’s parent company, Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc.

Wounded in her flesh, Linda Evangelista is also psychologically. After parading for the older ones, the ex-supermodel confides “no longer being able to look at herself in a mirror”. “I don’t recognize myself physically, but I don’t recognize myself as an individual either.” Linda Evangelista “is in a way gone”, testifies the one who speaks today to try to rebuild herself, but also for the other women. “Hopefully I can get rid of some of the shame and help other people who are in the same situation as me,” the star said.
