It is a difficult test for the model with an international career. Star of the 1990s, Linda Evangelista had distinguished herself as an essential top model with the greatest fashion designers and podium companions such as the German Claudia Schiffer or the iconic Naomi Campbell. In recent years, the public presence of the Canadian had been rarefied, before the latter reappeared unrecognizable following a failed cosmetic surgery operation. From his account instagram on September 25, 2021, Linda Evangelista had been candid about her disappearance: “The reason for this absence is that I was brutally disfigured by Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting procedure which produced the opposite effect of what I expected”. Almost two years after this release, the model delivers new reasons for its withdrawal. In the columns of the fall issue of WSJ Magazine published in September 2023, she confides having fought for five years against two breast cancer. “I know I have one foot in the grave”she thus revealed to our colleagues before bringing a touch of relativity to her way of apprehending the rest of her life: “I’m totally in celebration mode. I’m so happy to be alive. Everything that happens now is a bonus.”
“I opted for a bilateral mastectomy“
During this interview, Linda Evangelista notably returned to the chronology of events. She explains that she receives the very first diagnosis after a “annual mammogram” of control in 2018. His decision is final: “Without hesitation, because I wanted to leave everything behind and not have to take care of it, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy“. Unfortunately, and following a breast palpation, the model felt in July 2022 an unusual relief in her chest, a sign of the return of the disease. “Dig a hole in my chest. I don’t want it to look pretty. I want you to poke around. I want to see a hole in my chest when you’re done. Do you understand me? I won’t die of this“, she then told her oncologist, determined to eradicate cancer once and for all. If today, she seems to have regained the hair of the beast, Linda Evangelista remains aware that a risk of recurrence awaits her.
