Enedis answers some questions about the Linky meter. For Clubic, the supplier puts an end to the mystery about the flashing and explains the signs of a faulty meter or exceeding consumption.

A few days ago, we alerted you to possible orange or red flashing of certain Linky meters. It turns out that this is… impossible, and Enedis explains why. In 5 parts, the electricity distributor, contacted by Clubic, answers some of the main questions surrounding the small green box. You will now know everything (or almost) about Linky. Once and for all !

Can the Linky meter flash red or orange?

Enedis : “ The light indicator located on the upper part of the Linky meter flashes more or less quickly depending on the quantity of electricity consumed. The faster the flashing frequency, the greater the consumption. 1 Wh consumed = 1 flash. The indicator light located under the + button of the Linky meter lights up to invite the customer to activate their installation, by pressing this + button for 2 seconds “.

Let us add that there is no other function or color variation in these two light sources. And this applies to both the single-phase Linky meter (≤ 18 kVA) and the three-phase Linky meter (≤ 36 kVA).

So there is no other flashing color than the “natural” color of Linky?

On this point, Enedis’ response is clear, and puts an end to many fantasies about possible other colors of the meter flashing. “ No, there is no other color. The perception of the yellow/orange color of the LED can be influenced by various subjective and environmental parameters “.

How do you know that you are exceeding the subscribed power?

Enedis says that the faster the flashing, the greater the consumption. But let’s admit that we cannot have access to real-time data from our site/application, at what frequency can we fear being in the process of exceeding the subscribed power?

Enedis : “ By pressing the + key located under the Linky meter display area, the customer can access several pieces of information, such as their (apparent) “App Power”. This is the power drawn by electrical appliances in operation at time T (updated every second) “.

How can you recognize a faulty meter?

If it does not catch fire for this or that reason, it can be complicated to recognize a defective Linky meter. So what are the signs that can alert us to a defect in the box?

Enedis : “ Able to be interrogated remotely by our teams, the Linky meter can quickly detect most breakdowns. In very rare cases, a fixed display on an index, for example, without the possibility of navigating with the + key on the counter, may be a sign of a malfunction. “.

What to do if consumption monitoring no longer works?

It can, unfortunately, happen that the monitoring of electricity consumption no longer works from the site and/or the application of its supplier, and that we notice this several hours or several days or even weeks after the start of the worry. So what should the consumer do?

Enedis’ response is very simple, in that the company then advises the customer to “ contact us or contact your electricity supplier “. Note that such a problem can arise in the event of overconsumption, which can cause the meter to trip, or in the event of refusal of consent to the personal data policy, among other explanations.
