After updating the Raspberry Pi OS base to Debian “Bullseye”, many users had to adapt their scripts and programs because, among other things, old libraries were no longer supplied. The Raspberry Pi project has now published updated images of the Raspberry Pi OS Linux distribution, which, in addition to bug fixes, also brings back the old “legacy” camera libraries and tools.
If users have not switched to the Raspberry Pi OS legacy version, which is still based on Debian “Buster”, they can now update to the new version with slightly fewer adjustments to their own software.
Minor bug fixes
The project lists the changes in the release notes for Raspberry Pi OS. Some changes optimize the slim desktop manager LXDE. New options in raspi-config allow switching to composite video output, activating legacy mode for the camera module or presetting the resolution for “headless” connections. Several bug fixes eliminate annoying minor niggles, such as the lxsessions configuration not being saved on the first try.
Furthermore, the Raspberry Pi OS developers have updated the firmware. The kernel has been updated to 10/5/92.
Updated images are available from the Raspberry Pi project downloads page. A manual update via sudo apt update; sudo apt dist-upgrade
also brings a Bullseye-based Raspberry Pi OS up to date sudo raspi-config
support for the legacy camera tools can then be reactivated under “Interfaces”.
