Just no Schalke on the jersey
Sascha Mölders is on the home stretch of his career. That is obvious. When he sprints, but also because the jersey is a little tight now. The possibly too many kilos of the cult striker from 1860 Munich are always an issue. But not after the game against Schalke. The 36-year-old makes different headlines. First in the field, then on the microphone.
In the second round of the cup, Mölders managed to surprise the DFB Cup with his “lions”. The third division knocks the second division FC Schalke 04 out of the competition. The Gelsenkircheners were in good shape recently and the favorite. The lions played their guests with a lot of passion – and were rewarded. Mölders did not score the goal for the 1-0 victory himself, which was worried by Stefan Lex, but the old man in the storm rubbed himself off and were repeatedly involved in dangerous actions.
He had set the first major accent of the game. The captain took the ball from Darko Churlinov with robust effort, passed Lex, who overcame Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann. Of course it is not. Because Mölders is “Essener Jung”, as he himself says. And in the pot, you don’t like your soccer neighbors. And so Mölders doesn’t like Schalke. After the coup at Sky, he revealed that he particularly enjoyed this victory. There he also explained why he had taped the word Schalke on his shirt. The pairing is printed above the chest on the cup jerseys. The 36-year-old’s casual announcement: “I’m a boy from Essen, I have a hard time when Schalke is on my jersey. That’s why I taped it up.”
