Liot bill: article 1 “has a slim chance” of being on the agenda on June 8, says Yaël Braun-Pivet

Repeal the increase in the legal retirement age to 64 years. This was the objective of the Liot group on Wednesday, which presented a bill to this effect to the Social Affairs Commission. But nothing went as planned for them. Article 1 of the bill, which provided for the repeal of the 64-year-old, was rejected by the majority of the deputies present, provoking the ire of the Nupes deputies largely opposed to the reform of the government.

Article 40 in the crosshairs

And while the opposition is organizing to continue the fight around the end of the 64 years, Yaël Braun-Pivet considers article 1 of the Liot group, unconstitutional. “I have spoken and I will not change my mind. Article 1, the repeal of the pension reform, is unconstitutional in that it constitutes a charge” for the State, explains t -she at the microphone of Europe 1. In question, article 40, which has been in the news in recent days.

The latter prohibits parliamentarians from creating or increasing a public office. An article which could therefore apply to the pay-as-you-go pension system, whose good financial health is based on the balance between active and retired people. A balance that will be greatly upset in the coming years, with the number of inactive people expected to increase in France.

Take his responsibilities

“Logically, this amendment” should be declared contrary to article 40, but “I will look at the amendment formally when it is tabled, if it is tabled”, continues the President of the National Assembly. “But I remain very consistent in my words and in my actions.”

Will we then see this article 1 on the agenda of the deputies? He has “a slim chance” of being there, judge Yaël Braun-Pivet. Because, for the latter, this article “should not have been discussed in committee, since being contrary to article 40. sense. However, he did not. The article came up for discussion and was rejected by the deputies in the Committee, by means of a vote. And therefore, if it returns to the hemicycle, I I will obviously take my responsibilities, as I call on everyone to do”, she concludes.
