Although many melodies have melancholy tones, music remains a favorite way for many of us to resurrect happiness. According to recent research, there are even specific musicians who excel at cheering us up. Find out which ones here.

Music, often called the fourth art, plays a vital role in evoking human emotions. Whether to express sadness or awaken joy, each piece has its own essence. A recent study shed light on the unique power of certain artists to instill happiness in their listeners.

A recent scrutiny by Preply, a Ukrainian platform dedicated to language learning, reveals some intriguing facts. By analyzing more than 200,000 posts on Reddit dedicated to around 90 artists, they discovered that Ed Sheeran and the group U2 excelled at spreading happiness. These artists, famous for their upbeat, story-telling lyrics, seem to strike a chord with their fans, allowing them to find themselves in positive, joyful stories.

Not far behind, the groups Blackpink and The Killers occupy third and fourth place, with Beyoncé surprisingly in fifth position. Followed by Selena Gomez, Harry Styles, Daft Punk, and BTS. This ranking reflects a preference for catchy beats and lyrics that celebrate life, a seemingly effective formula for elevating listeners’ moods.

Rap and the projection of anger

On the other hand, the Preply platform discovered an interesting association between rap and the expression of anger, albeit in a positive way. Artists like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, known for their impactful lyrics, stand out in this area. Their songs often address themes of resilience in the face of serious topics such as domestic violence and gender inequality. Other artists like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj, as well as rock and metal bands such as Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, are also mentioned in this category.

It should be noted that certain musical genres are specifically associated with love. Singers like Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, and Dua Lipa are known for creating songs that evoke this feeling. Oddly enough, this category is dominated by female artists, perhaps highlighting a trend in how different musical genres and artists convey specific emotions through their works.
