Live at the Gasometer – Nothing But Thieves: The electric guitar is still alive

Their album “Dead Club City”, released last summer, gave Nothing But Thieves the decisive career push. Although they were already considered one of the most promising rock bands in Europe with the previous three works, it was precisely this courage to change that was rewarded. With the blessing of his colleagues, guitarist and producer Dominic Craik gave free rein to his love for synthesizers and suddenly the guitar rock band became a danceable, 80s-influenced guitar rock band with electronic influences. “We never planned to write a synth or dance album,” says Langridge-Brown with a smile, “now that rock and emo music are slowly having a revival again, we’re going for 80s sounds. At least you can’t accuse us of following common trends.” But what seemed to take some getting used to on the album for old fans works immediately live. “Do You Love Me Yet?”, the opener “Welcome To The DCC” and “City Haunts” unleash tremendous rock power that is only supported by the synths, but not overwhelmed.
