Livret A: the rate doubles 1%

The Livret A rate was raised to 1% on Tuesday, the date of entry into force of this increase announced two weeks ago by the government.

The last pay rise for the Livret A dated back to August 2011, when it went from 2 to 2.25%. Its rate has only stagnated or fallen since then, falling in February 2020 to 0.50%, a historic floor. The doubling of the rate, proposed by the Governor of the Banque de France on January 14 and accepted by the crowd by the government, is explained by the rise in prices observed in recent months, which reached 2.8% over one year in December.

The Livret A rate is calculated twice a year by taking the average between, on the one hand, the average inflation rate of the last six months and, on the other hand, the average of the interbank rates, at which the banks are change short-term money. By applying this formula, the rate should normally have been 0.8%, but the authorities have decided to give a boost.
