Logitech Pro X 2 Lightspeed review: our full review –

Helmet gaming Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed is a high-end wireless model, which takes the design of its predecessor and adds some welcome new features. On the program: Bluetooth connectivity associated with better range and better autonomy, but also a wired jack connection.

This second iteration is now equipped with graphene transducers, which are supposed to be more efficient and benefits from some ergonomic adjustments with in particular the arrival of pivoting bells. In short, nice upgrades to an already great headset.

All these novelties have a price since this new version is offered at the salty price of 270 euros, much higher than its predecessor (and than its direct competitors) whose price has had time to drop a lot since its launch.

Manufacturers no longer take many risks in terms of design and ergonomics. Logitech is no exception and gives us here a helmet almost identical to the first version. It is difficult to distinguish between the two models, which is not necessarily a bad point, as the G Pro X was well built and sober.

We find the same metal hoop, covered with foam and stitched imitation leather. The plastic parts that seal this arch have been slightly refined and are more discreet than on the model released three years ago. The amplitude adjustment of the headband offers significant freedom to adapt to everyone’s morphology and has well-marked notches.

The first novelty of the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed is quickly obvious: the ear cups are now mounted on a pivot, which allows them to be rotated 90° when the helmet is placed around the neck. This is one of the few things that the first G Pro X of the name lacked which makes this second iteration even more comfortable on a daily basis.

The design of the earpieces does not really evolve and they resume an identical appearance with a soft plastic coating in the center of which the brand logo proudly sits, circled in a metallic disc. The pads are still generous and two pairs are provided: one covered in leatherette and the other in fabric.

Once screwed on the head, the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed remains a reference in terms of comfort. It even has the luxury of being even lighter (345 g) and is thus forgotten, even during long sessions of use. In this regard, the experience is impeccable!

Coming back to the headsets, the latter benefit from some changes in the buttons and connectors. The right headset, which until then had no connectors, now has a jack input allowing the G Pro X 2 to be used on the vast majority of platforms.

On the left, we still find the power switch, a very pleasant volume adjustment wheel, as well as a button to mute the microphone. Power and battery charging are still provided by a USB C port. Finally, the arrival of Bluetooth adds a dedicated button, particularly for pairing.

It is also on this headset that the removable microphone jack connector is located. This one is still just as compact and equipped with a very well built shape memory pole. Its main advantage is that it retains the shape given to it well, which is unfortunately not always the case on gaming headsets.

Finally, and as usual, Logitech pulls out the big game by accompanying its helmet with a multitude of accessories. In addition to the two pairs of ear pads, the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed comes with its dongle USB, a jack cable, a USB cable and a carrying case.

Users of the original Pro X will not be out of place, as long as the G Hub driver has not changed. The customization of the helmet is childish, while being relatively complete if we compare it to the competition. Logitech provides a five-band equalizer as well as different presets depending on the type of use.

A menu, still just as comprehensive, is dedicated to sound surround and allows you to finely customize it. Apart from a few presets, the volume of each channel can be adjusted to customize the sound experience.

As often with Logitech, it is the settings applicable to the microphone that are the most complete and interesting. As soon as the Blue VO!CE function is activated, there are no less than ten independent settings which range from noise reduction, to a compressor and a limiter.

Again, many presets are available to approach the sound reproduction of the radio or a commentator. A final tab allows you to assign atmospheres and sound effects to certain keys of other Logitech products to broadcast them on Discord or Twitch. A totally gimmicky feature, but one that can make you smile.

The standby time of the headset is customizable and we find the same irritant as on the previous model: when the headset goes to standby, you have to flip the switch to the “Off” position and then put it back to the “On” position. to turn the headset back on. Finally, and as always, all settings can be associated with profiles, synchronized between branded devices and to be associated with games and applications.

You might think that it is no longer possible to do better regarding the connectivity of gaming headsets. However, Logitech is getting there, by simply taking up what was done before: analog connectivity. Thus, the G Pro X Lightspeed can be used wirelessly (via its dongle), Bluetooth and wired, which makes it virtually compatible with all devices on the market.

Logitech announces that it has reworked its Lightspeed technology to guarantee better range for its flagship headphones. In practice, we must admit that the transmission was flawless throughout the duration of our test. It was possible for us to use the headset several meters from the PC, behind walls and partitions without this interfering with the broadcast.

If it is not possible to listen to the three audio sources simultaneously, Logitech offers an amazing alternative: the dongle is equipped with a jack port on which it is possible to connect an audio source to mix it with the Lightspeed wireless source. We can thus imagine connecting the helmet via its dongle Lightspeed to a console and plug in a walkman or a computer to listen to music. We would have preferred a real mix of the different audio sources, but this function at least has the merit of existing.

On the autonomy side, things are also moving with no less than 50 hours announced by the brand. During our tests, the headset exceeded our expectations and we were able to use it for more than 60 hours. For example, on the first charge and after more than six hours of continuous use, the headset had barely lost 5% of its battery. We are far from the indecent battery of the Cloud Alpha Wireless, but the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed remains a very good student.

Logitech is especially highlighting its new graphene transducers supposed to bring “improved audio response, reduced distortion and unparalleled sound”. On paper, this stronger and lighter material is more suitable for an audio application than the traditional mesh used in general.

The headset sounds very fair overall, with a balanced sound reproduction that does not fall into the classic trap of gaming headsets, namely the (abusive) emphasis on low frequencies. The whole spectrum can be expressed, which allows the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed to be as comfortable in game as in listening to music.

It is in particular the feeling of accuracy and balance that emerges after the first hours of use, especially since it is still possible to adjust the sound reproduction using the equalizer. In game, all the ambient elements reach the ears in a clear way, the immersion is more favored by the width of the sound stage and the good stereophony. We also benefit from a very correct passive insulation with the leatherette pads.

The localization of sounds is excellent, the sounds of explosions can be expressed freely and the sounds of footsteps from our opponents reach our eardrums without difficulty. Better yet: the sound surround DTS is also effective (in game), and it’s rare enough to be noted. Without radically improving the localization of sounds, it is above all immersion that is favored here. In short, without being able to say if graphene is the only reason for its excellent performance, the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed from Logitech is simply one of the best headsets gaming market wireless.

The built-in microphone is not to be outdone and allows effective voice pick-up. If it does not yet manage to match the first generation wired G Pro X, it seems a little more efficient than the one that equipped the first iteration of the G Pro X Wireless. Well hidden in the settings, a “hardware” noise reduction is offered, but it is not yet the most effective. Whether it actually manages to block out all sounds other than voice when the user isn’t speaking is a different story when it does. For example, keystrokes on a mechanical keyboard are always heard, as on the vast majority of gaming headsets.
