Loire-Atlantique: a doctor with disturbing gestures condemned

A doctor has been convicted of sexual assault. Five women filed a complaint against him.

On Thursday January 5, 2023, a country doctor from Derval, in Loire-Atlantique was sentenced for aggravated sexual assault, committed on four patients between 2011 and 2015. Doctor Luc F. will see his name integrated into the automated judicial file of perpetrators of sexual offences. He will be obliged to point once a time to the gendarmerie or to the police station closest to his home. He was ordered to pay 1,000 euros in damages and 500 euros in legal costs to the first complainant. Two other victims will receive 2,000 and 3,000 euros respectively.

It was in November 2015 that a first complaint against Luc F. was filed. Indeed, a young mother makes an appointment at his home to be auscultated at shoulder level, following a car accident. The man then touched her breasts. Following this complaint, the investigators questioned no less than 51 women out of the doctor’s 1,276 patients. Five filed complaints for “inappropriate behavior”. 70 years old at the time, he had been indicted for rape and sexual assault before the criminal procedure was corrected. To defend himself, the doctor had then put forward his “old fashioned training”. But the comments collected by the complainants are alarming. He had thus indicated to a young patient where was his g-spot? “I did a medical examination, certainly awkward, but I did not want to attack him”, he repeated. “If we don’t examine people, then we’re sure to find nothing. If I found thirty-two cancers in eighteen months, it’s not by watching the flies fly… It’s hard, medicine, especially when you’re far from everything: you don’t have a scanner, no MRI…”

The defense lawyer presents his arguments

According to his lawyer, the doctor would actually be afraid of missing a diagnosis. “He had a visceral fear of missing out on a lethal pathology,” abounds his lawyer. He admitted that his client may have shown a “extremely unwelcome paternalism” and of a certain “clumsiness“but that he was not “not a sex offender” however.
