The accident occurred Sunday morning, around 11 a.m., in Orléans (Loiret): a 17-year-old boy died in a car driven by his 14-year-old cousin.

The BMW 5 series, which had been stolen by the teenagers from the driver’s father, crashed head-on into a tree in the La Source district. The victim, who had to be extricated by firefighters, died of his injuries in hospital on Sunday afternoon.

The driver in custody

Hospitalized in shock, the 14-year-old driver was taken into police custody on Sunday before being released “for further investigation”, said prosecutor Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren.

A little earlier, a 14-year-old teenager driving a two-wheeled cross-country motorcycle, without a helmet or headlights, was hit by a car in Ormes (Loiret) at 3 a.m., the prosecution said in a separate press release.

The teenager died in the crash while the 25-year-old driver of the car was “seriously injured”. An investigation was also opened to determine the circumstances of the accident.
