Loki: No 3rd season planned! “Moon Knight” will also not be renewed on Disney+

LOKI

So far, “Loki” is the only Marvel series on Disney+ that has received a second season – and apparently also the last. A sequel to “Moon Knight” is also not planned.

  • “Loki” Season 2 has just started on Disney+, but the Marvel series will reach its finale in November.
  • Contrary to expectations, “Moon Knight” will not be continued with another season either.
  • Marvel is following its own plans; further seasons were never planned.

Marvel’s ways are unfathomable. Since Disney expanded the MCU to include series, new productions have appeared several times a year on the Disney+ streaming service, which expand the superhero universe from the cinema and sometimes provide it with new heroes.

It was noticeable that since the start of “WandaVision,” the first MCU series, only one series has received a sequel. “Loki” has returned to Disney+ with a second season since the beginning of October 2023; all other series have so far had to make do with just one season. Were they all not successful enough?

No exceptions for hits

As “Moon Knight” director Mohamed Diab revealed in an interview with Arabic Marvel, Marvel has a precise plan from the start. This stipulates that the MCU series all consist of 6 episodes, “WandaVision” is an exception, and are completed after one season. “Loki” was always planned as a two-parter.

This information suggests that “Loki” will not continue with a third season, regardless of the success of the series. “Loki” producer Kevin Wright also spoke to Collider about the future prospects of the series.

I would say that Season 1 and Season 2 were developed and created as two chapters of the same book, so to speak. We were all convinced that Season 2 was about closing this book, but that there are many other books for this character and this world. But we felt like it should be the conclusion of these great things that we built in Season 1. We don’t want to constantly leave people with drastic cliffhangers in our finales.

Of course, there is a reunion for Marvel fans with Loki, Sylvie, Mobius and Co., but all storylines that are still open after season 2 will be continued in other films or series.

The reason for Diab’s statements about Marvel’s decision-making process was the question of a second season of “Moon Knight”. With a sequel seemingly already confirmed by Oscar Isaac, it no longer sounds like Moon Knight will be returning in his own series.

Here, too, the end of the series does not mean the end of Moon Knight itself, but the question arises as to how the necessary space can be found in other projects to accommodate characters like Moon Knight, She-Hulk or Kate Bishop.

A new “Loki” episode awaits us every Friday until November 10, 2023. Maybe the big finale will indicate where and when we will see the god of practical jokes and villain Kang next.
