From today we could witness a new gold Rush in North America. Riot Games has indeed announced the launch of the “Champions Tail“, a special soloQ queue reserved for the elite of the elite. To participate, you will have to be among the very high elo players in the region and the goal is clear: raise the level by offering a quality competitive environment. In addition to being very selective, it should also be noted that the servers dedicated to this premium classified queue will be particularly efficient and will allow players to benefit from an optimal connection. It is common knowledge that the “basic” soloQ in North America lacks competitiveness and suffers from a bad ping.
So far, there’s nothing really shocking about this Champion Queue. But hang on tight because the sequel is worth the detour: Riot Games has decided to put money into play, and not just a little, to reward the best players. We are still talking about $400,000 to play soloQ… For some it is the absolute dream but for others it is a huge madness.
Strict criteria to participate
If some players are already planning to move to take advantage of the Champions Queue and its cash prize, we advise you to stay reasonable. Riot Games has still set strict conditions to access this special game mode. It will be reserved primarily for professional players (LCS, LCS Academy, LLA…) and players from the best amateur teams (Proving Ground). The other players will then be able to access the Champions Queue by applying individually through a commission (Riot Games, pro players, team staff…) who will study requests on a case-by-case basis for players ranked at least Master.
The Champions Queue will be built around professional players and will not be open all day. To stick to timetables and team scrims, it will only be active between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. Monday, the traditional rest day for the pros, will be an exception and the Champions Queue will be available from 10am.
$400,000 to be won over the year
The Champions Tail will take a bit of the LCS system and will be divided into several parts. There will be 2 main seasons (Spring and Summer) which will themselves be divided into 3 segments. To end the year, there will be a bonus season, after the Worlds of League of Legends, and with the novelties of the preseason, named Pre-Season Brawl. Each step allows you to accumulate points and at the end, the $400,000 should be distributed among the top soloQ rushers.
For the moment, it is not yet known how the money to be won will be distributed. We also don’t know if amateur players will have an advantage over professional players who already have a salary… But if we rely on infographics used as an example, it can be assumed that only the top 20 will walk away with a piece of the cake.
