It’s been more than a decade since our very dear pebble, the shard of the monolith also called Malphite, appeared in League of Legends. Since then, he has hardly moved and some of his appearances – the oldest ones – have aged quite badly. But that could be about to change. A new splashart for the Obsidian Malphite skin was seen on the Riot Games side… but not on League of Legends. It is on the side of Wild Rift, the mobile version of the MOBA, that this update took place.
Soon an update for the pebble?
It’s a little too early to get excited, but we can hope that this update, if only on splasharts, will also come to League of Legends. It should also be kept in mind that the teams working on the PC version and the mobile version of the game are not the same. Some skins will never arrive in one and vice versa. However, this appearance is common to both, so we can legitimately assume that this skin will have an update of its splah (as was the case recently for Annie Gothic).
As you can see above, some splasharts have aged quite badly: Clover Malphite, Corallian, Marble, and Obsidian. These are the first champion skins and the latest are of course up to date and do not really deserve updates (Filibustier, Odyssey or Dark Pulsar).
Despite his seniority, the champion has never really fallen out of favor with the players. He is the 69th most popular character (which is honorable given that the rift has 159 champions) with 7% pick all ranks combined (for 4.2% ban) and displays a comfortable 51% win rate. It would therefore not be surprising if the studio finally gave him (re) some love.
