LoL: Riot’s brilliant idea to improve communication that never made it into the game

The community League of Legends Riot often asks for constant improvements to all game systems and one of the ideas that comes up most often is to add new quick notifications to communicate with our teammates. The developer is usually not very receptive to the idea of making these changes without a large part of the players understanding why. However, the most unfortunate thing is that the company itself has had great ideas that do were ultimately not introduced.

A Big Change That Never Happened to League of Legends

One of the most interesting improvements that the notification system of League of Legends was going to receive was related to the ping which warns of our arrival (On my way). This signal is the one all players use when heading into a fight or planning to go to a certain area. However, he offers us half information. Although we know that our teammate is coming, he gives no indication as to the distance between us, which forces us to look at the map or to guess, from the intensity of the pings, how long it will take him to reach the indicated position.

During some internal testing phases, however, the notification added additional information such as an estimate of how long it would take for your mate to reach you.

The truth is that the improvement is evident and would have allowed us to have more information about our teammates without being too embarrassing. Perhaps, in order not to be indicated only in the chat, there could be a color code or it could be displayed in a different way depending on the distance of our mates. The truth is that in a game that does not have voice chat and does not plan to add it, it would be nice not to have to keep an eye on the map in the middle of a fight in which we are struggling to complete our adversaries or stay alive.

While company employees have confirmed that the image above is part of their testing and they’ve been trying out this feature for a while, it’s unclear why they haven’t added it. Even if it was a chat notification, it would make things better and allow us to play with more coordination. However, Riot Games never added it, and it doesn’t seem like — nearly four years after first showing it off — they seem inclined to introduce this element to League of Legends.

Komachi is one of the most unknown canceled champions in League of Legends history, but he could have introduced a very unique ability to the game. However, the developers considered it a nightmarish design. .
