The signing of Rekkles to Karmine Corp was the most significant transfer of last season. The one who for years had been the best ADC in Europe left G2 Esports to stay out of the best League of Legends championship on the Old Continent and signed in a team which, although excellent on the national and European level , took him away from the elite. A situation for which no great explanation had yet been given, but which now the player himself clarified in one of his lives on his personal channel.
What has happened to Rekkles since leaving Fnatic?
The player wanted to start by reviewing all the events that have taken place since his departure from fnatic . “Let’s start at the beginning: leaving Fnatic was a mistake… and I think two other mistakes have happened during this ‘off-season’. The first thing is that I didn’t have an agent and the second thing is that without someone to advise me, I signed a shitty contract”, began the shooter. Already at G2 Esports, the season has not been particularly brilliant and the Swede was excluded from the roster, not even being on the list of substitutes, which prevented him from defending his starting position.
It is from this moment that appears the strategy of G2 Esports to avoid strengthening rival teams. ” Playing in another team was not really possible because my buyout clause was too high . G2 only dropped her when every other LEC team signed an ADC. I had a lot of options, but they would have been very expensive (…) That left me with only two alternatives: I could sign for the best non-LEC team or stay on the bench for a season. However, I really couldn’t stay on the bench because of what I said before: I signed a bad contract. If I stayed on the bench, I was not going not get paid“, he continued.
Rekkles found himself in a real contractual “prison” of which, the player partly blames himself. By dint of renewing his contract at Fnatic, while being the image of the structure, Rekkles had never needed an agent. He recognizes that the advice of a professional in the field of contracts would have been very useful to him before signing with G2. It is not the first time that the Spanish structure has found itself in a drama of this kind, because if it treats its players well as long as they are holders, it is used to adding clauses to contracts, preventing players to join competing teams. Perkz paid for it, and had to go to C9 largely because of it.
A future without KC?
As for the future, Karmine Corp’s failure to reach the LEC made him not want to continue with the team anymore. The Swede acknowledges his desire to return to the top flight, although there is still a problem. Since G2 Esports sold the player at a very high price, the French club wants to recover part of its investment . This leaves Rekkles in a tough spot. “None of this would be a problem if I had smurfed all year (…) This is very important to mention. My power is in my level of play, which has not been as high as I would have liked. This is a point that I must stress”said the player.
Finally, Rekkles has confirmed that he is also looking to pass support . He considers that he can bring a lot to a team beyond his obvious mechanical abilities and points to his “sense of the game” as one of his greatest strengths. Moreover, he feels that it is a relatively simple transition. Other players who have gone this route and it has worked out well for them. We can think of Zven and Yell0wStaR in particular. No one knows if Rekkles will play in the LEC next year as it seems to depend a lot on how much a team is willing to invest to afford his services.
