What does Long Covid mean?

The term Long Covid summarizes persistent or new symptoms following an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The symptoms can last for several weeks or months and affect the quality of life and ability to work of those affected.

The exact cause of Long Covid is not yet fully understood. Experts suspect that it is the result of a chronic inflammatory reaction or damage to various organs.

Test: Are you affected by Long Covid?

To date there is no test to diagnose Long Covid. Rather, various tests are carried out to rule out other diseases (exclusion diagnosis).

If you think you have Long Covid after being infected with Corona, you should see your family doctor. The symptoms can only be treated afterwards with an expert diagnosis.

In the meantime, you can use this test to find out if you are showing signs of Long Covid.

So far, Long Covid can only be prevented if infection with the coronavirus is avoided. Compliance with infection protection measures and vaccinations play a central role.
