Long-distance duel for pre-playoffs – Varone lets Bern cheer – Ambri continues on the wave of euphoria – sport

In the meantime everything seemed to be going well for Ambri in the stick fight. In Bern, Simon Bodenmann scored to make it 1-0 for the ZSC Lions, in Ambri the hosts were ahead against Biel. But Johan Lundskog’s team turned around with great morale. Phil Varone scored in overtime after 33 seconds and secured his colors the extra point.

The goal was very impressive. Kaspars Daugavins’ pass deflected Varone perfectly and was untenable for Jakub Kovar in the Zurich goal. After the sensitive 1:5 in a direct duel with Ambri on Wednesday, the “Mutzen” were able to rehabilitate themselves and relax their own situation in 10th place in the table. The cushion on the Leventine is still 5 points, but Ambri has played one game less and needs the maximum number of points from the remaining games if they still want to reach the pre-playoffs.

After Bern had dominated the first period and Zurich the second period, the goal ban was only broken in the 50th minute:

  • 50 minutes: Simon Bodenmann completes a beautiful Zurich combination after a start by Justin Azevedo in an exemplary manner to make it 1-0.
  • 51 minutes: Tristan Scherwey, back in action for the first time in over 2 months after an ankle operation, equalizes on the power play. Azevedo is in the penalty box.

Ambri brings victory over time

The Leventine continued their run against Biel and won for the 4th time in a row. In front of an enthusiastic following, Luca Cereda’s team could count on a brilliant Janne Juvonen. The Finnish goalie, who was signed from the KHL, excelled several times, especially in the middle third, and prevented the goal from being scored.

André Heim extended Dominic Zwerger’s lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute. When he scored, he symbolized Ambri’s will that evening. From the corner he curved in front of the goal, left several opponents standing and finally danced out Dmitri Schikin in the Bieler Tor.

The fact that things got exciting again was also due to a penalty for too many players on the ice, which Viktor Lööv took advantage of with a wrist shot in the 53rd minute. Juvonen then kept his box clean with a bit of luck.
