Long investigation – cheating doctor caught by fake flashing blue light

During a traffic check in May 2022, police officers in Ossiach noticed a blue light behind the windshield of a 56-year-old doctor from Lower Austria. The doctor then also presented a certificate, but the officials were suspicious.

According to the 56-year-old, the state of Lower Austria had issued authorization to operate the blue light because of his work as a doctor. “In the course of very lengthy surveys, this certificate was ultimately identified as a forgery,” says Waltraud Dullnigg from the LPD Carinthia. “Mainly such authorizations are issued for emergency doctors and then only for the respective district. Although he is a general practitioner, he was ultimately not entitled.” But the 56-year-old didn’t stop with the blue light. “During the investigation, it turned out that he probably used this certificate to get discounts from the vehicle dealer he trusted,” Dullnigg continued. “These apply to doctors who work as emergency physicians. Thanks to the discounts when leasing several vehicles, the Lower Austrian saved tens of thousands of euros.” The 56-year-old doctor is therefore reported to the public prosecutor on suspicion of fraud.
