Lords of the Fallen: a new gameplay video shows the mechanics of parallel worlds

We won’t tell you about all the mess caused in our database by this strange choice to name this sequel/reboot in the same way as Lords of the Fallen in 2014. No doubt this is a way to draw a line on this lackluster predecessor… Anyway, Lords of the Fallen does not leave his objective in view: to become a respectable member and honoris causa of the Souls-like sphere. Aesthetic dark fantasycreepy atmosphere, fights demandingall based on a technical framework boosted to Unreal Engine 5… This time, Hexworks and CI Games seem to have worked hard to convince the public. The latest trailer presents a new mechanic based on the coexistence of two parallel worlds within the game.

After the AAA, the BBB: Brutal Boss Battles

These two worlds, Umbral (world of the dead) and Axium (world of the living) will offer different challenges and distinct aesthetics. Players will need to use the Umbral Lamp to open a window to the other world in order to solve puzzles, activate certain mechanics, and more. Knowing that the heroes will live by default in the Axium world, if they die, they will wake up in the Umbral world. It will then be necessary to sacrifice one of the two lives available to the characters to return to the Axium. The Umbral Lamp will also allow you to use special skills: attack the soul of the enemy to inflict more heavy damage, or even manipulate certain elements of the environment. And what would a Souls-Like be without dantesque boss battles? The trailer broadcast during the Future Game Show 2023 allowed to attend some excerpts from “Brutal Boss Battles “, which look rather rough, against bosses with a rather original design (although in the pure spirit Dark Souls/Bloodborne).

In the official Hexworks and CI Games press release, Hexworks Studio Director Saul Gascon said: “By allowing players to wield the Umbral Lamp and switch between two distinct parallel worlds at will, we’ve managed to introduce new levels of immersion into the action-RPG genre. We think this addition brings a refreshing twist, albeit often ominous, to its well-established mechanics, such as a revitalized death race, dual-level environmental storytelling, and of course, tactical impact in combat. challenge when it arrives in October!”

Lords of the Fallen will indeed arrive in stores on Friday, October 13, 2023. Pre-orders are open on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
