Loto du Patrimoine 2022: here is the list of the 18 sites selected


For this fifth edition of the Loto du Patrimoine, 18 sites have already been selected, one per French region. The amounts granted will be revealed during the next European Heritage Days on September 17 and 18. Here is the list of the 18 “iconic” sites for 2022.

Burgundy-Franche-Comté: Priory of Charité-sur-Loire (Nièvre)

The Notre-Dame de la Charité-sur-Loire priory, located in the Nièvre department, was selected by the Loto du Patrimoine to represent Burgundy-Franche-Comté in 2022. This building, which dates from the 12th century, has been listed historical monument in 1840, before being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

The building suffers from watertightness problems and work must be carried out in the frame and the heads of the roof to allow the structure of the church to be preserved. The lottery will finance the work costing between 2.5 and 3 million euros.

Centre-Val de Loire: Alix house in Gien (Loiret)

For the Centre-Val de Loire region, it is the Alix house located in Gien in the Loiret which was selected by the Mission du Patrimoine 2022. The house, which dates from the 16th century, is the oldest in the city and was escaped the bombardments of World War II. Today the building threatens to collapse.

With the support of Loto du Patrimoine, the municipality which encountered difficulties in restoring the Alix house will be able to finance part of the rehabilitation work on the site in danger.

Corsica: Castle of Quenza (South Corsica)

The castle of Quenza located in southern Corsica, will represent the region for this 2022 edition of the Loto du Patrimoine. This site was built between the wars by a Sébastien Colonna Cesari, a diplomat of the Third Republic. The architecture of this castle is very original but its condition is such that access to the site is prohibited.

The Heritage Mission will allow emergency work to be carried out to prevent the roof from collapsing and therefore gradually from collapsing the building.

Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: Sources Park in Vichy (Allier)

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will be represented by the Sources de Vichy park in Allier.

The choice of the park is part of a desire to revitalize the city of Vichy, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2021.

Mayotte: Former sugar factory of Hajangoua, in Dembéni

The former Hajangoua sugar factory, in Dembéni, will represent Mayotte for the 2022 edition of the Loto du Patrimoine. It is a sugar estate created in 1870.

The sum allocated by the Loto will allow the realization of works of development and accessibility of the site, the security and the preservation of nature but also the clearing of the surroundings.

Reunion: Former Pierrefonds sugar factory, in Saint-Pierre

It is also a former sugar factory that will represent Reunion. This is the Pierrefonds factory in Saint-Pierre in the south of the island. The site dates from the 19th century and is a central monument of the Pierrefond district.

Abandoned since 1970, the factory needs restoration work, in particular asbestos removal and reinforcement of the structure. Its rehabilitation will allow, according to its defenders, to federate the district which extends around it.

French Guiana: Village of Acarouany in Mana

Guyana will be represented by the village of Acarouany in Mana. It is a former leper colony founded in 1833 by Sister Anne Marie-Javouhey. The latter was the last leper colony in France and closed in 1979.

Thanks to the Heritage Mission, the municipality has already renovated the old maternity hospital in 2021 and intends to continue restoring the village to revitalize it. Five boxes should benefit from a restoration.

Martinique: Atlas cinema in Anses d’Arlet

It is the Cinéma Atlas des Anses d’Arlet which was selected by the Loto du Patrimoine to represent Martinique in 2022. Opened in 1905, it is the only cinema in the south of Martinique. It can accommodate 80 people. Between 2013 and 2015 it was temporarily closed to the public.

The Loto will make it possible to restore the room but also to repair the roof to welcome spectators and cinema lovers in complete safety.

Guadeloupe: La Souvenance (Maison Schwarz-Bart) in Goyave

The Mission du Patrimoine will help La Souvenance located in Goyave in Guadeloupe. This is the Creole house of writers Simone and André Schwarz-Bart. It has since become the Caribbean Center for Art and Culture André and Simone Schwarz-Bart.

The Loto du Patrimoine could allow La Souvenance to welcome artists in residence, since to do this, restoration and consolidation work on the building is necessary.

Brittany: Former penal colony of Belle-Île-en-Mer (Morbihan)

It is the former penal colony of Belle-Île-en-Mer in Morbihan which will represent the emblematic site of 2022 for Brittany. It is a former place of detention for juvenile delinquents, vagabonds or orphans and which is sometimes nicknamed “the prison for children”.

The building, which has been abandoned since 1977, will be rehabilitated to allow the creation of a place that will offer a varied artistic and cultural program, to help boost the economy of Belle-Île during the low season.

Occitanie: Stewardship House of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier (Hérault)

Occitanie will be represented by the Maison de l’Intendance du Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier, located in the Hérault department. This is a botanical garden founded in 1593 by King Henry IV, it has a stewardship house which for lack of maintenance is falling into ruin.

For the moment closed to the public, the sum paid by the Loto du Patrimoine will allow the restoration of the south wing of the building.

Pays de la Loire: Porte Beucheresse in Laval (Mayenne)

The Porte Beucheresse in Laval will represent the Pays de la Loire region for this 2022 edition. It is the best preserved element of the old ramparts of the city of Laval in Mayenne. It has been classified as a historical monument since 1931. The city acquired it completely in 1995.

Two million euros of work are necessary to allow the complete restoration of the Porte Beucheresse and the Loto du Patrimoine will take part in it.

Great East: First castle of the Princes of Salm in Sénones (Vosges)

The first castle of the Princes of Salm in Sénones in the Vosges was selected by the Mission du Patrimoine to represent the Grand Est region in 2022.

Also called Hôtel de Bilistein, it was built in 1754 by the first Prince of Salm, Nicolas Léopold.

The president of the European Community of Alsace, Frédéric Bierry, wants Alsace to leave the Grand Est region.

The sums collected by the Loto will allow the start of structural works of the building which threatens to collapse in places.

Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur: Castellas de Roquemartine in Eyguières (Bouches-du-Rhône)

The ruins of the Castellas de Roquemartine in Eyguières in the Bouches-du-Rhônes were selected for this 2022 edition. The building, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, dates from the 12th and 13th centuries.

The Friends of Castellas de Roquemartine association plans to open the site of the ruins to the public. The sums received thanks to the Loto will make it possible to carry out work in this direction.

Hauts-de-France: Oignies mining headframes (Pas-de-Calais)

The mining headframes of Oignies in Pas-de-Calais are the emblematic site of Hauts-de-France which will be supported by the Loto du Patrimoine in 2022. The site opened in 1853 was dismantled in 1992. It is in this mine that Georges Mulot discovered Pas-de-Calais coal in the 19th century.

The destruction of the site was considered but the hypothesis was ruled out in favor of restoration. Work on the stairs and safety cleats worn by corrosion are the first to be considered.

Ile-de-France: Church of Saint-Louis in Villemomble (Seine-St-Denis)

For its fifth edition, the Loto du Patrimoine has selected the church of Saint-Louis de Villemomble in Seine-Saint-Denis to represent the Ile-de-France region. The religious building dates from the 20th century.

The bell tower of the church must be renovated and the treatment of the concrete of the building must be carried out to allow its structure to be preserved.

Normandy: Church and veterinary infirmary of Haras du Pin (Orne)

Normandy will see the church and the veterinary infirmary of the Haras du Pin in the Orne benefit from the aid of the Loto du Patrimoine. The Haras nicknamed the “Versailles of the Horse” was built between 1715 and 1736 by order of King Louis XIV and his minister Colbert. It is the oldest of the national stud farms.

The Loto will allow the restoration of the church, now out of use, but also of the veterinary infirmary of the Haras.

New Aquitaine: Italian-style theater in Guéret (Creuse)

The Heritage Mission has chosen to support the Italian Theater of Guéret in New Aquitaine. The site located in Creuse dates from 1837 and closed its doors to the public in 1983. If the facade is in good condition, the interior of the building is in poor condition. The Theatre, which belongs to the town, was classified as a historical monument in January 2021.

Four million euros would be necessary to allow its reopening to the public, but also to artists. The Loto du Patrimoine will make it possible to advance the reopening work.
