The legendary British manufacturer Lotus is about to reveal its future model: an electric GT with performances that promise to be rather explosive.
After the Eletre SUV unveiled in March, it’s the turn of the Lotus Emeya to show the end of its hood. Formerly known by the code name Type 133, the GT sedan was unveiled along a very short video of less than 30 seconds (see bottom of the article) by the brand now owned by the Chinese company Geely. It will pose as a direct competitor to the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S Plaid, just that.
Lotus and electrification
This has not escaped any car fan, almost all manufacturers are in the process of electrifying their vehicles. For many brands, the step was taken a long time ago. For others, the orientation is quite recent, and Lotus is one of them. Formerly renowned for its ultra-light and very sporty cars, the manufacturer is now aiming for new horizons.
Even if this choice will leave some purists rather skeptical, we cannot say that Lotus has spared its efforts to ensure its transition to electric. The future Emeya is based on the same modular platform as the Eletre and presents very aerodynamic lines as well as an overall appearance suggesting performance worthy of the brand’s past. A truly fashionable style, underlined by a very significant lighting signature. It will occupy the E segment (four-door coupé) and is advertised by Lotus as “ the world’s most advanced electric Hyper-GT “.
Power and heritage united in one model
True to form, the brand has chosen for its sedan a name beginning with the letter “E“, a sincere nod to its history. A real tribute that cannot simply be summed up in a name, the Emeya will also have to respect the sporting DNA of Lotus. Even if the details on the engine have not yet been revealed, it could be that the engines of the Eletre are taken over. As a reminder, there are two of them: one of 603 horsepower for a range of 600 kilometers, and another of 905 horsepower for 490 kilometers.
The model will be presented in New York on September 7, and it will be entirely manufactured in Wuhan, China. Lotus then plans to market its model from 2024. Will the manufacturer’s 75 years of experience be enough to win the hearts of fans?
