After a year and a half of health crisis, how to strengthen the wallet of the French? On Europe 1 and CNews, for the third debate of the Republicans’ nomination for the next presidential election, the five candidates have put forward their economic proposals. According to a survey for Europe 1 and CNews, 64% of French people believe that tax money is misused. Michel Barnier, Xavier Bertrand, Éric Ciotti, Philippe Juvin and Valérie Pécresse propose different measures.
A retirement at 65 wanted by several candidates
The former Brexit negotiator for the EU, Michel Barnier, wants a drop in employer contributions on wages from 1.6 to 2.5 times the minimum wage. The candidate also shares a reduction of 10 billion euros in production taxes, an increase in the salaries of professors and teachers as well as a single and capped unemployment benefit. He is positioning himself for retirement at age 65 by 2030.
For his part, the mayor of La Garenne-Colombes Philippe Juvin defends a massive tax cut, including on business production. The one who is also a professor of medicine advances a territorial equality plan, a funded pension and, like Michel Barnier, a retirement at 65, except for long and difficult careers.
The retirement age of 65 is also shared by Éric Ciotti. The deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes also wants a national and European priority concerning housing and the end of inheritance rights. He also defends a 15% income tax for all, except the most precarious, and a 39-hour week paid 38 in the public service.
A work bonus to reach 1,500 euros per month
Xavier Bertrand opts for retirement at age 64 in 2030, the same deadline as Michel Barnier. The president of the Hauts-de-France region also proposes doubling the number of homes benefiting from renovation aid, a work bonus to reach 1,500 euros per month and tax exemption for overtime.
Finally, the president of the Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse “wants to restore order” in the finances. She wants a reform of pensions, unemployment insurance “with degressivity” and advocates a reform of the decentralization of the State.
