VLadimir Putin tipped Europe into a more perilous, more unstable, more violent era. Democracies can no longer live carelessly since he invaded Ukraine, without the slightest provocation on his part. The good news, however, is that the misfortune he unleashed on the continent revealed to European states their vulnerability. The Russian despot made them realize that the time for a strategic awakening had come. He wanted to recreate the Soviet Union, he resuscitated the European Union. The ordeal it imposes on its neighbor marks a historic turning point for the continent.
