Lucid reduces the price of its electric car for 800 km of autonomy by €30,000, which becomes cheaper than the Tesla Model S

While a price war rages on the electric car market, Lucid is reviewing the prices of its Air electric car with a reduction of almost 30,000 euros. The latter becomes more affordable than its rival, the Tesla Model S.

If electric cars are still considered too expensive by motorists, they are nevertheless less and less so. And this is thanks to the drop in the cost of lithium, among other things, which allows manufacturers to lower their prices. And they don’t deprive themselves of it, on the contrary!

A falling price

This is for example the case of Tesla, which was the first to drop its prices, by around 13,000 euros on its Model 3 and Model Y last year. Which has since created a snowball effect and inspired many other brands. Among them, Lucid, which has also launched into this ruthless price war. In January 2023, the firm offered a nice discount on its Air sedan, for long-term rental.

Then, in August, it simply decided to lower its prices in the United States, after unveiling a new entry-level version. But there is no question for the American manufacturer to let this happen, especially since the world number 1 in electric vehicles, BYD, is planning an even more intense battle. As a result, Lucid, which sells its electric cars in Europe, has decided to once again rework its price list at the start of the year.

The site Motor Authority indicates in fact that the electric sedan, rival of the Tesla Model S benefits froma $7,500 discount in the United States. An amount which corresponds to that of the tax credit granted by the government under the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act). Customers can purchase a copy from $71,400which is equivalent to 66,327 euros according to the current exchange rate.

This price is obviously valid for the entry-level version called Air Pure, which however offers a generous allocation. The latter notably includes a large 34-inch curved digital panel, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control or even automatic parking. Not to mention Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, which is also part of the equipment delivered as standard.

A fall in Europe too

Overall, the entire range has been priced lower in the United States, up to the most premium version Air Sapphire, which claims no less than 1,234 horsepower. Or the Dream Edition version with a range of 883 kilometers according to the European WLTP cycle. Which places it in direct competition with the Mercedes EQS.

But what about the prices in Europe, since the sedan is also marketed in Germany, Norway, Switzerland as well as in the Netherlands? Well good news, here too these are in decline, in order to better compete with Tesla. Especially since the firm has tended to revise its prices upwards in recent days. With our German neighbors, the Lucid Air is now starting from 85,000 euros on the online configurator.

For comparison, the sedan was displayed from 109,000 euros last May, as indicated by a communicated of the brand. For its part, the Tesla Model S starts from 94,990 euros in Germany and France. For the record, the Lucid Air Pure claims 442 horsepower and displays a range of 747 kilometers according to the European WLTP cycle compared to 723 km for the Tesla. 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 4.7 seconds at Lucid.

The Touring version is priced from 99,000 euros, with a power that increases to 628 horsepower and a range of 725 kilometers in the combined cycle. Until now, it took no less than 129,000 euros. Finally, the most high-end version in Europe, called Grand Touring, starts from 129,000 euros. It offers no less than 831 horsepower and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, all with a range of 792 kilometers.
