Lucy: a spin-off series in the works with Morgan Freeman

Almost 8 years after the cinema release of Lucy, Morgan Freeman should resume her role in a series derived from the science fiction feature film directed by Luc Besson.

The famous science fiction film Lucy could soon be entitled to its spin-off… in series! According to exclusive information from Variety, Morgan Freeman is in the middle of negotiations to play in a series derived from the film by Luc Besson.

If the project were to see the light of day, the actor will resume his role of Professor Samuel Norman, whom he played in the feature film. At the moment, plot details are still being kept under wraps.

In this science fiction film directed by Luc Besson and released in 2014, Scarlett Johansson played Lucy, a young student who saw her intellectual abilities develop to infinity after taking a drug. A true box office success, Lucy had grossed over $463 million, despite rather mixed reviews.

Faced with this success, many rumors ran about the possibility of a sequel. They were however regularly denied by Luc Besson, who had pointed out that the story of Lucy was not made to have a sequel. It would therefore seem that the director has since changed his mind.

The series is EuropaCorp’s second approved project since the production company was acquired by Vine Alternative Investments in 2019. Luc Besson recently wrapped filming DogMan, starring Caleb Landry Jones, which tells the story of a child bruised by life, who will find his salvation through the love of his dogs.
