Lufthansa repaid part of the state corona aid earlier than planned. She transferred 1.5 billion euros to the Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF) of the Federal Republic, as she announced on Monday evening. The group intends to repay another billion euros by the end of the year. The WSF currently still holds 14.09 percent of Lufthansa’s share capital – in the Corona crisis it was 20 percent.
Lufthansa received a total of nine billion euros as a rescue package
During the Corona crisis, Lufthansa negotiated a state rescue package worth a total of nine billion euros with the German government and the EU Commission – three billion euros as a loan from the state development bank KfW and six billion euros from the WSF. The group did not use everything by far.
“We are very grateful that Deutsche Lufthansa AG has been stabilized with tax revenues in the most difficult times,” said Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr. “As a result, more than 100,000 jobs were saved and secured for the future.”
The group had already redeemed a loan from the state development bank KfW in the amount of one billion euros early in February. Now the airline took in just under 2.2 billion euros by issuing new shares and repaid the so-called silent participation I to the state. The Group intends to repay the silent participation II in the amount of one billion euros in full by the end of 2021 and also terminate an unused part of the silent participation I by then. (AFP)
