Insuring its customers in an intelligent way, such is the ambition of the company Luko. Mainly known for its online insurance services, the company is launching Luko Water, a connected box whose purpose is to detect water leaks.

Luko Assurances, which specializes in home insurance services, is continuing in its logic and increasing its offer for individuals. The company already made it possible to follow its electricity consumption in real time with its mobile application coupled with your Linky meter, without the need to be insured with them. Luko is launching a new consumption monitoring service, this time related to water: Luko Water.

A service to detect leaks and prevent water damage

Based on the principle that prevention is one of the best ways to avoid water damage, Luko launches Luko Watera connected box that allows you to monitor your water consumption in real time, and detect potential floods before they start.

After testing several solutions internally, the company finally decided to use ultrasound to detect the flow of water. Thus, a sound wave is sent in both directions of the water current, in order to calculate its travel time. Based on this time, the box determines the flow in the water inlet pipe, in order to assess both the water consumption in real time, but also to alert the user in the event of a leak. .

Luko Water also stands out from other solutions on the market for its ease of use: it is a device that is placed directly on the water inlet pipe, without the need for tools or professional intervention from a plumber.

An inexpensive and practical alternative to the usual solutions on the market

Solutions for anticipating and preventing water damage are numerous on the market, but they all have potential flaws. Thus, some methods are inexpensive, but also not very effective in terms of results. Others are more limited: if they are able to determine flooding on the ground, for example, they are less effective when it comes to hidden leaks in walled pipes, for example. Finally, there are complete solutions that provide a higher level of diagnosis, but these are obviously much more expensive and require the intervention of a professional plumber.

Luko Water therefore provides a welcome alternative: reliable and efficient technology to prevent maximum water damage, all at a controlled cost.

If today the solution Luko Water is evaluated by more than 200 beta testers, home insurance ensures that the latest prototype is close to the final goal, with two more major challenges: machine learning, to potentially improve leak detection, and finally the simplification of the installation of the device to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

After raising 20 million euros in November 2019, and 50 million euros in December 2020, the idea is to launch Luko Water on a large scale in 2023, in particular by making it possible to equip all Luko policyholders in the years to come (i.e. around 300,000 people in France).

A companion app to track your water consumption

Luko Water is not only intended to prevent potential flooding: it is also a service allowing you to monitor your water consumption in real time, in order to regulate it. All you have to do is install the Luko app on the Google Play Store or the App Store.

For information, this companion application allows, in addition to monitoring the evolution of its water consumption and potentially making savings, to keep an eye on the company’s other preventive services: Luko Elec and Luko Door.

To follow the progress of the project Luko Waterwhich we hope to see arriving next year in many homes, just go to the official website of the insurer and its social networks.
