Ohas embroidered so much on Molière’s life! To celebrate the 400e anniversary of his birth, it’s time to find the man behind the actor.
From our school readings, there remains the feeling that the king would have turned away slightly from Molière to favor Lully and his operas. Examination of the documents from the time does not confirm this impression in any way. Until the comedian’s death in 1673, the Royal Troupe always enjoyed the favors of the Sun King, even if the latter increasingly appreciated French opera, consisting solely of music and ballets.
