Attention, small week on the side of the streaming platforms. If the month of March started with a bang with The Mandalorian, this weekly selection of the best new releases from Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Canal+ is marking time. This did not prevent Digital to concoct a small list of films, series and documentaries to see in the week of March 6, 2023.

This week we recommend the movies Luther: Fallen Sun, Thunder in the tropics, Babe, a pig in the citythe documentary India, discovering the leopard and a selection of short films for International Women’s Day, March 8.

Thunder in the tropics (Canal+)

When three of Hollywood’s biggest stars land in the Vietnamese jungle to shoot a war movie, they are quickly caught up in reality, and will have to deal with drug traffickers.

After Zoolander and the fashion world, Ben Stiller tackles Hollywood and its ridicule in Thunder in the tropics. This action-comedy happily smashes clichés, poking fun at blockbusters, self-absorbed actors and overzealous producers, and offers its five-star cast (Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black) something to drink. have fun and laugh at themselves. A twisted, irreverent and slightly greasy film, but which still works just as well. From March 6 on Canal+ and the myCanal platform.

Babe, a pig in the city (Canal+)

The pig Babe, the only representative of the pig race to know how to drive a herd of sheep, precipitates by clumsiness the brave Mr. Hoggett at the bottom of the well. The unfortunate man is now immobilized, and despite his care, the farm is collapsing and the bank is threatening him with seizure. The peasant woman then decides to engage Babe in a new competition which will bring them the essential money. Gathering all their courage, Babe and his mistress go to town.

This is a film that asks you to rediscover your inner child and dive into a world of stories and talking animals. Always signed George Miller, director of Mad Max: Fury Road (yes!), this sequel to the cult Babe, the pig turned shepherd propels our adorable pig into a more spirited and ambitious urban adventure. We lose a bit of charm along the way, but the film remains a pleasant Proust madeleine for anyone who grew up in the 1990s. From March 7 on Canal+ and the myCanal platform.

Short Films – International Women’s Day (Prime Video)

As part of International Women’s Day, Prime Video is offering a series of five short films by directors from the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art (CNSAD), the list of which is as follows:

  • I (ONE)directed by Josza Anjembe
  • Stella Novadirected by Audrey Jean-Baptiste
  • Phainodirected by Anne Cissé
  • Parabellumdirected by Rokhaya Balde
  • White Spiritdirected by Anne-Sophie Nanki

From March 8 on the Amazon Prime Video platform.

Luther: Fallen Sun (Netflix)

A sinister serial killer terrorizes London, while disgraced brilliant policeman John Luther languishes behind bars. Haunted by his inability to stop the cyberpsychopath, he decides to escape from prison to complete this investigation by all means.

This film extension of the cult series Luther sees the return of Idris Elba as the British policeman, for one of his toughest challenges. If the fans of the original series will be happy to dive back into the universe, the simple curious will find the whole winded and uninspired, which prevents Luther: Fallen Sun to be more than pleasant entertainment. There remains a thunderous start and a tasty cast, notably with Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley. From March 10 on Netflix.

India, discovering the leopard (Disney+)

Kingdom of the tigers, India is also home to the undisputed masters of stealth, who roam deep in the jungle and on the highest peaks of the mountains: the snow leopards, also called mountain ghosts. Sandesh Kadur, animal reporter and member of National Geographic, goes on a mission to reveal the mysterious life of these majestic cats.

This week, Disney + does not shine with its novelties. No worries, National Geographic is here to offer us its share of exotic documentaries with magnificent images. India, discovering the leopard thus offers an unprecedented dive into the Ladakh region, in the Himalayas, to meet the clouded leopard, the smallest of the felines. A documentary that will amaze you and clear your head for 45 minutes. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Starting March 10 on Disney+.
