LVMH: commits to regenerative agriculture in Chad

(CercleFinance.com) – In the context of COP27 and within the framework of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (an alliance that brings together institutional and economic players to develop sustainable cotton production in Africa), LVMH announces that it is enriching its environmental program LIFE360 and confirms its commitment to regenerative agriculture.

While Lake Chad shrank by 90% between 1963 and 2001, in particular due to the industrial production of cotton which consumes a lot of water, the CBA intends to initiate sustainable and regenerative production methods there, promoting both biodiversity and economic opportunities linked to the sustainable cotton value chain.

Through LVMH, CBA will focus on regenerative agroforestry and land restoration by working with 500 producers to plant fruit trees or forest trees alongside their cotton crops.

‘The LVMH group has set itself the objectives of implementing regenerative agriculture in strategic supply chains and preserving 5 million hectares by 2030. LVMH […] is proud to support this new project in Chad aimed at preserving local biodiversity, combating climate change and desertification,” says Hélène Valade, environment development director at LVMH.
