Nearly 2,000 people took to the streets of Lyon, this Saturday, January 8, to demonstrate against the vaccine pass. On the sidelines of this mobilization, a tear gas grenade launched by the police landed in an apartment located on the third floor of a building on rue Romarin, in the 1st arrondissement.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m., when the situation began to become tense between the protesters and the police. According to the Rhône prefecture, the latter used tear gas in response to projectile jets from the protesters.
One of the grenades therefore hit an apartment, from which a thick cloud of smoke escaped. According to witnesses interviewed by Le Progrès, the police immediately broke down the door of the building and climbed the floors to ensure that its occupants were well. The latter, a woman and her children, were inconvenienced by tear gas but were not injured, according to firefighters dispatched to the scene.
However, investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of this incident, the consequences of which could have been more serious. According to the prefecture, the first elements suggest that one of the grenades thrown by the police would have rebounded on the facade of the building and reached this apartment by ricochet.
