Lyon D-15 before moving to zone 30: the whole city (or almost) is concerned


The news caused a lot of ink to flow last summer. History, no doubt, that Lyon motorists can prepare for it. The novelty is now coming in a fortnight. From March 30, the maximum authorized speed will be limited to 30 km/h in the streets of Lyon. The entire city is affected. Or almost.

The fact is, moreover, that many streets are already at reduced speed. To date, there are indeed more than 200 km of roads at 30 or 20 km/h. The latest to be passed in zone 30 is the rise of Choulans, where after two consecutive serious accidents, the Metropolis had taken the decision to lower the speed. Speed ​​which is not always respected.

From March 30, the regulatory change to 30 km/h will be extended to the entire network (there are still more than 500 km at 50 km/h), minus a few exceptions, the decision being taken in connection with the municipality, the prefect and the Sytral. Among the traffic lanes that escape the 30 km / h, we can already mention the quays of the Rhône, avenue Berthelot, rue Garibaldi, the Cours Gambetta… We will have to wait until March 18 to find out more.

Grégory Doucet, mayor, Fabien Bagnon, vice-president of the Métropole in charge of roads, and Valentin Lungenstrass, deputy mayor in charge of mobility, will unveil, that day, to the press, the outlines of the implementation of the City 30 in Lyon. In the meantime, the town hall communicates on “this decisive action, proven in several major European cities” through which “the City of Lyon and the Metropolis of Lyon mark their commitment to improving the safety of users and a calmer traffic. »

Last summer, by announcing the thing, the Greens had faced an outcry from, in particular, the opposition. Thus Yann Cucherat, president of the group “For Lyon”, reacted: “We support zone 30. However, what bothers me is that the purpose of the Greens is to no longer see cars in the city center by the constraint instead of supplementing it with balanced public policies and alternative solutions like in Paris with the metro. If we take the North South axis, it is already saturated. »
